200 Hour Programs:

Stress Management

     Acupressure is one of the most effective treatments for relieving stress. Learn how to give professional acupressure sessions in an office chair or on-site massage chair and on a mat or massage table for releasing stress effectively. Learn several methods for relieving such stress disorders as headaches, insomnia, chronic fatigue and anxiety. Study how to utilize the mind through hypnosis and guided imagery. Discover Thai Massage, using therapeutic stretching in conjunction with acupressure and shiatsu. Also study stretching for self-care. In summary, you will learn four aspects of stress management: 1) point therapeutics, 2) acupressure techniques such as shiatsu, 3) theory of traditional Asian health care, and 4) hands-on stress reduction applications. Our 150-hour Basic training or the completion of a bodywork program is a prerequisite for this program.

ACUPRESSURE'S POTENT POINTS
Prerequisite: None
Text Required: Acupressure's Potent Points
12 Class Hours

Provides hands-on point location, self-care, and clinical applications for relieving common ailments from A to Z for working with clients.

ACU-YOGA
(Basic Training Elective)
Four-week class or weekend workshop
Prerequisite: None
Text Required: Acu-Yoga
12 Class Hours

Learn to combine acupressure points with yoga postures for self-treatment. This class emphasizes working with the meridians and chakras, deep breathing exercises and self-care for common stress related problems.


ACU-YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
Prerequisite: Acu-Yoga and Basic Acupressure Class
24 Class Hours
Required text & materials: Acu-Yoga book and audiotape set or 3 video sets.

Learn how to teach Acu-Yoga self-help techniques, breathing, meditation, yoga therapeutics, and couple exercises. A certificate of completion awarded.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn the four methods of Seeing, Hearing/ Listening, Smelling, and Touching. Learn to incorporate this information in assessing clients through the 8 Principals and 5 Elements.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS II
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes; Assessment & Applications I
15 Class Hours

Learn to deal with more complex or "knotty" issues in clinical focus sessions.


THE CHAKRAS
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to balance the psyche through the Chakras. The emotional and mental states of each Chakra will be discussed, as well as the related organs and glands. Also learn the points and emotional correspondences for each Chakra.


CHI GUNG FOR BODYWORKERS
Prerequisite: None
15 Class Hours

Learn to cultivate, focus, direct and apply vital energy (chi) doing bodywork. Learn Chi Gung body mechanics and their applications to bodywork. Learn to ground and harvest your cosmic chi for greater stamina and bodywork effectiveness. Learn the Macrocosmic Orbit to center yourself and balance the Central Channel. Learn Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) for deep inner body awareness.


COUNSELING SKILLS
Prerequisites: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to combine verbal techniques with bodywork to cultivate emotional healing. Work on your own attitudes that get in the way of being an effective counselor. Students also role play difficult situations for gaining new perspectives and awareness to work with clients toward resolution.


HEALING IMAGERY I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Learn the four foundational skills of imagery. Practice these skills and receive feedback. Discuss practical ways of integrating Guided Imagery into your practice. Focus on special needs and advantages of combining bodywork, relaxation, and dialogue with Guided Imagery.


HEALING IMAGERY II
Prerequisite: Healing Imagery I
12 Class Hours

Develop and refine skills introduced in Healing Imagery I. Learn advanced Imagery skills such as Grounding, Evocative Imagery, Parts Work, Inner Conflict Resolution, and Inner Child Work. Focus on discussing selected case studies from students' own practices.


ON-SITE CHAIR SHIATSU
12 Class Hours

Learn Shiatsu techniques to use on clients in a regular chair and a massage chair. Covers two chair Shiatsu routines: a short 10-minute and complete 30-minute session. Includes marketing and business ideas for on-site work.


PRACTICAL TEACHING SKILLS
Prerequisites: Basic & Mini Classes
10 Class Hours

Learn how to present the following three hour classes: "Releasing Shoulder & Neck Tension", "Releasing Back Tension & Pain", and "Acupressure for Common Complaints."


STRETCHING TECHNIQUES: ACTIVE
Prerequisite: None
Text Required: Anatomy of Movement
15 Class Hours

Explore solo and client stretching techniques and how to customize stretches with an emphasis on proper alignment. Learn the anatomy of each stretch. Explore practical applications for opening blockages and the circulation of Chi and Blood through the meridians. The Active class will cover stretching techniques such as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and neuromuscular anatomy.


STRETCHING TECHNIQUES: PASSIVE
Prerequisite: None
Text Required: Anatomy of Movement
15 Class Hours

Explore solo and client stretching techniques and how to customize stretches with an emphasis on proper alignment. Learn the anatomy of each stretch. THAI MASSAGE FOR THE BELLY

14 Class Hours

Learn abdominal assessment and palpation. Special attention will be given to opening the breath and traditional Thai massage methods for approaching this vulnerable and powerful healing area of the body.


THAI MASSAGE: FRONT & BACK
Prerequisite: None
14 Class Hours

Learn how to use powerful Yoga-like stretches along with Shiatsu and other bodywork skills. Perform a full-body routine covering the front, back, and legs in prone and supine positions.


THAI MASSAGE: SIDES & SEATED
Prerequisite: None
14 Class Hours

Learn a full body Thai massage using side position stretches. Discover arm stretches and techniques for releasing shoulder and neck tension in a seated position.


TOUCHING SPIRIT
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Explore the traditional Chinese ideas relating to the unity of Mind, Body, and Spirit. Study the Chinese characters for the Five Aspects of Shen/Spirit and the acupoints that allow us to literally "touch spirit". Learn how to incorporate these "spirit points" into your assessments and sessions.


TUI NA I (Chinese Massage)
(Basic Training Elective)
Four-week class or weekend workshop
No prerequisite
12 Class Hours

Learn 13 hand techniques, self-massage, Tao Yen, T'ai Chi and Qi Gong exercises. Apply techniques and range of motion through clothing, usually on the table. Based on wind and water Feng Shui, a full body approach for the client and practitioner. Required for Shiatsu Program.


TUI NA II (Chinese Massage)

12 Class Hours

The advanced Tui Na classes apply Traditional Asian Theories and present new hand techniques, movements and range of motion. Learn Tai Chi animal movements, Pa Kua (the 8 Gates) and the Wu Xing (five phases).


TUI NA III (Chinese Massage)
12 Class Hours

The advanced Tui Na classes apply Traditional Asian Theories and present new hand techniques, movements and range of motion. Learn Tai Chi animal movements, Pa Kua (the 8 Gates) and the Wu Xing (five phases).


WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES
Prerequisite: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
10 Class Hours

Deepen your understanding of a woman's cycles using Traditional Chinese Medicine and a western physiological point of view. PMS, cramps, mood swings, fertility, ovarian cysts, fibroids, cystitis, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts, pelvic inflammatory disease, eating disorders, and cervical dysphasia will be covered. Improve your assessment skills using the 8 principles of TCM. Gain knowledge of key acupressure points, hands-on techniques and nutritional support for addressing the unique needs of women.


ZEN SHIATSU FOR COMMON COMPLAINTS
Prerequisite: Zen Shiatsu
Text Required: Zen Shiatsu
12 Class Hours

Learn advanced Zen Shiatsu techniques along with potent points and meridian do's and don'ts. Home therapy and exercises will be taught to address common complaints and promote healing. Refinement of the Zen Shiatsu form and body mechanics will be demonstrated and practiced in class.
