200 Hour Programs:

Traditional Asian Therapies

     Learn the many ways traditional Chinese medicine perceives and treats the body. Discover how to assess the body using traditional pulse and tongue assessment. Learn advanced applications to the five-element theory. Study traditional Chinese Herbal Patent Formulas, as well as, the uses of magnets, moxabustion and cupping techniques. Explore Tui Na (Chinese massage) and other related hands-on techniques. Our 150-hour Basic training or the completion of a bodywork program is a prerequisite for this program.

For a 200-hour program, choose at least four of the following primary classes. These classes can also be part of a 850-hour program.

ACU-YOGA
(Basic Training Elective)
Text Required: Acu-Yoga
12 Class Hours

Learn to combine acupressure points with yoga postures for self-treatment. This class emphasizes working with the meridians and self-care for common problems


ADVANCED FIVE ELEMENTS
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn 30 command points, tonification, sedation, and 'lo' points Examine the five elements with the control and breeding cycles


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn the four methods of Seeing, Hearing/ Listening, Smelling, and Touching. Learn to incorporate this information in assessing clients through the 8 Principals and 5 Elements.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS II
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes; Assessment & Applications I
15 Class Hours

Learn to deal with more complex or "knotty" issues in clinical focus sessions.


CHI GUNG FOR BODYWORKERS
Prerequisite: None
15 Class Hours

Learn to cultivate, focus, direct and apply vital energy (chi) doing bodywork. Learn Chi Gung body mechanics and their applications to bodywork. Learn to ground and harvest your cosmic chi for greater stamina and bodywork effectiveness. Learn the Macrocosmic Orbit to center yourself and balance the Central Channel. Learn Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation) for deep inner body awareness.


CHINESE HERBAL PATENT FORMULAS
Prerequisites: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to use 30 patent formulas. Based on the 5 elements and yin yang balancing theories, these prepackaged popular herbal pills and ointments compliment acupressure meridian work. Learn how to choose appropriate formulas for basic conditions.


EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS
Prerequisites: None
15 Class Hours

Learn advanced point formulas based on the Basic Acupressure class. Study the Extraordinary Vessels through hands-on practice and theoretical instruction. Learn how each vessel flows and functions to bring deeper balance.


MOXA, CUPPING & MAGNETS
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Study the history, precautions, and applications for using moxa. Learn moxa applications for deficient, cold or damp conditions. Use cupping techniques for sprains, cold and arthritis. Learn how to use magnets with acupressure applications.


NUTRITION FOR DEPRESSION AND PAIN
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Learn what foods support our emotional balance and contribute to depression, anxiety and chronic muscular pain. Key supplementation for balancing brain chemistry, nourishing nerves and building healthy joints and muscles will be discussed. Learn strategies for changing common destructive dietary habits, the physiology involved in a holistic nutritional approach and Chinese dietetics.


PULSE & TONGUE ASSESSMENT
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Acupressure Classes

12 Class Hours

Utilize both theory and assessment techniques based on face and tongue observation and pulse reading. Apply the 8 parameters and 5 elements to pulse and tongue reading in selecting acupressure point formulas.


TOUCHING SPIRIT
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Explore the traditional Chinese ideas relating to the unity of Mind, Body, and Spirit Study the Chinese characters for the Five Aspects of Shen/Spirit and the acupoints that allow us to literally "touch spirit" Learn how to incorporate these "spirit points" into your assessments and sessions


TRADITIONAL ASIAN THEORY I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Learn to assess a person's condition using the eight principles, common organ theory of Zang Fu, the six pathogenic factors as well as the theory of Qi, blood, Jing Qi, and Shen.


TRADITIONAL ASIAN THEORY II
Prerequisites: Traditional Asian Theory I
12 Class Hours

Continue with theories of Asian therapy presented in Traditional Asian Theory I. Learn to assess a person's condition efficiently and accurately, integrating information on the tongue, pulse, face, and symptoms. Sessions plans are supplied for each syndrome.


TUI NA I (Chinese Massage)
(Basic Training Elective)
Four-week class or weekend workshop
No prerequisite
12 Class Hours

Learn 13 hand techniques, self-massage, Tao Yen, T'ai Chi and Qi Gong exercises. Apply techniques and range of motion through clothing, usually on the table. Based on wind and water Feng Shui, a full body approach for the client and practitioner.


TUI NA II (Chinese Massage)
12 Class Hours

The advanced Tui Na classes apply Traditional Asian Theories and present new hand techniques, movements and range of motion. Learn Tai Chi animal movements, Pa Kua (the 8 Gates) and the Wu Xing (five phases).


TUI NA III (Chinese Massage)
12 Class Hours

The advanced Tui Na classes apply Traditional Asian Theories and present new hand techniques, movements and range of motion. Learn Tai Chi animal movements, Pa Kua (the 8 Gates) and the Wu Xing (five phases).
