200 Hour Programs:

Women's Health

     Increase your awareness and skills in helping your female clients in all aspects of their lives. Study the physiological and emotional chemistry of women's health using special acupressure points, herbology, imagery, hypnosis, stretching, nutrition and traditional Asian therapies. Explore women's health issues and acupressure applications during pregnancy, birthing and menopause. Learn the best points and meridians for relieving other common female imbalances. The Acupressure Institute's 150-hour Basic training or the completion of a bodywork program is a prerequisite.

Class Descriptions:

ABUSE ISSUES
Prerequisites: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Learn to work with physical, emotional, and sexual abuse through discussions, hands-on and verbal healing techniques. Discover how trust, compassion and safety are the foundations for dealing with abuse issues.


ACUPRESSURE FOR MENOPAUSE
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
12 Class Hours

Appreciating menopause from both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western physiological approaches enables you to better support female friends, family and clients. Information and suggestions for making a smooth transition during menopause will be covered. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, osteoporosis, and alternatives to hormone replacement therapy will be discussed. Sensitize your ability to understand body imbalances, refine your TCM assessment skills, acupressure point applications and gain nutritional support.


ADVANCED ACUPRESSURE OIL MASSAGE
Prerequisites: Acupressure Oil Massage, Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Integrates Swedish and Esalen massage techniques with meridian and five element assessment skills. Learn how to assess your client through touch, physical body language clues and verbal communication along with intuition. Present and past injuries as well as emotional wounds are addressed. Good body mechanics are emphasized to increase practitioners' effectiveness and decrease fatigue.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS I
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn the four methods of Seeing, Hearing/ Listening, Smelling, and Touching. Learn to incorporate this information in assessing clients through the 8 Principals and 5 Elements.


ASSESSMENT & APPLICATIONS II
Prerequisites: Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Acupressure Classes; Assessment & Applications I
15 Class Hours

Learn to deal with more complex or "knotty" issues in clinical focus sessions.


THE CHAKRAS
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to balance the psyche through the Chakras. The emotional and mental states of each Chakra will be discussed, as well as the related organs and glands. Also learn the points and emotional correspondences for each Chakra.


CHINESE HERBS FOR WOMEN
Recommended Classes: Traditional Asian Theory and Tongue & Pulse Assessment
12 Class Hours

Discuss the use of Chinese herbs for a variety of issues including PMS, menopause, pregnancy bladder and yeast infections. Learn traditional formulas and over-the counter products and Chinese patent medicines commonly used to address women's problems. Focus on traditional Chinese Medicine assessment to learn how to use herbs safely.


COUNSELING SKILLS
Prerequisites: None
12 Class Hours

Learn how to combine verbal techniques with bodywork to cultivate emotional healing. Work on your own attitudes that get in the way of being an effective counselor. Students also role play difficult situations for gaining new perspectives and awareness to work with clients toward resolution.


EMOTIONAL RELEASE
Prerequisite: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
15 Class Hours

Learn to use communication and counseling skills. Discover how to guide and focus awareness to cultivate and facilitate an emotional release. Learn points and emotional correspondences for each Chakra.


NUTRITION FOR DEPRESSION AND PAIN
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Learn what foods support our emotional balance and contribute to depression, anxiety and chronic muscular pain. Key supplementation for balancing brain chemistry, nourishing nerves and building healthy joints and muscles will be discussed. Learn strategies for changing common destructive dietary habits, the physiology involved in a holistic nutritional approach and Chinese dietetics.


PRACTICAL TREATMENT POINTS
Prerequisites: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
Text Required: Tsubo
10 Class Hours

Learn hands-on techniques for locating points. This class will cover how to relieve many common ailments such as nausea, indigestion, colds, and bronchitis. Explore clinical applications of various health conditions.


PREGNANCY & BIRTHING
Prerequisite: None
12 Class Hours

Explore the changes, risks and concerns of pregnancy. Learn about the birth process and how to support a birthing woman. Locate points to relieve pregnancy discomforts, facilitate birth, and progress labor. Learn about the forbidden points during pregnancy. Learn what points to use when the birth is overdue and for postpartum.


WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES
Prerequisite: Basic & Intermediate Acupressure Classes
10 Class Hours

Deepen your understanding of a woman's cycles using Traditional Chinese Medicine and a western physiological point of view. PMS, cramps, mood swings, fertility, ovarian cysts, fibroids, cystitis, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, fibrocystic breasts, pelvic inflammatory disease, eating disorders, and cervical dysphasia will be covered. Improve your assessment skills using the 8 principles of TCM. Gain knowledge of key acupressure points, hands-on techniques and nutritional support for addressing the unique needs of women.
